WHAT'S YOUR WAR?

Letting Go

2010
The war I’m illustrating is fundamentally a war on not letting go. This means everything from getting lost in the small inconveniences and temporary frustrations of day-to-day life all the way up to being lost in old heartbreaks or failures. For me, I identify moments of release and escape most strongly with swimming in the ocean. The pinnacle of letting go, then, would be completely drifting away in the currents and letting the tides take over. That’s what is happening to the individual in this piece. He’s not dying; he’s letting himself be pulled along by more natural forces.
